Hoya introduces a new generation of lens technology:
The world's first Integrated Double Surface Progressive Design

The uniqueness of two surfaces dramatically
reduces the amount of distortion in front of the
eye and creates the largest distortion-free zone
available, enabling perfect interaction.

The world ’s first Integrated Double Surface Progressive Design
Until now, the distortion associated with all progressive lenses had been distributed on either the front or the back surface of the lens. Progressive designers excelled in spreading this distortion out to minimize its effect in the periphery of the lens.
In an industry-first development, Hoya has created a progressive lens with a totally new design, one which fully integrates the advantages of the front and back surfaces.
By developing an integrated double surface progressive lens, based on Hoya's new virtual evaluation and calculation technique, Hoya has distributed the total distortion over two surfaces.

The birth of a totally new generation progressive lens
A revolution of similar magnitude occurred several decades ago with the introduction of progressive lenses. Being able to see at all distances was no longer just a theoretical possibility and millions of people worldwide quickly switched over to this new concept. Although there have been various improvements over the years, the principle has remained the same: all the progressive components being positioned either on the front surface or on the back surface.
Various disadvantages and restrictions remained with such designs, including the need for presbyopes to change their viewing habits to compensate for the lens design. As an integrated double surface progressive, Hoyalux iD means presbyopes can now really enjoy natural viewing.

A revolution in lens technology
A totally new surface structure

The front surface includes the vertical components of the total progressive and aspheric performance.

The back surface includes the horizontal components of the total progressive and aspheric performance.

A wealth of benefits
As you are aware, standard progressive lenses are semi-manufactured products. The convex or front surface is progressive while the concave or back surface is cut for prescription power. Or the convex or front surface is a spherical surface, while the concave or back surface is cut for progressive and prescription power. This means a clear choice has to be made: either a short corridor between the far and near which results in a small near portion, or a wide near portion that results in a long corridor length or unpleasant distortion.

Hoyalux iD brings an end to this conundrum by integrating the best of both worlds: a short corridor and the widest, distortion-free visual surface for all distances. Hoya calls this the Integrated Double Surface Progressive Design. ‘iD' stands for Integrated Design.

Integrated Design
ensures that the progressive performance in terms of function and comfort is evenly distributed across the front and back surfaces.

By keeping the normal distortion on the front surface, vertical eye and head movements are kept to a minimum.
Concentrating the skew distortion on the back surface provides a more suitable position for the eye, resulting in an extra wide field of view across the entire far, intermediate and near vision area.
As a consequence, the number of head movements is reduced and a genuine natural feeling is achieved.

Skew Deformation Index Calculation
A new solution for skewed distortion

It is important for presbyopic wearers that the distance between the far vision area, the intermediate zone and the near vision area is as short and wide as possible. At the same time these wearers also want to reduce any uncomfortable feeling of swaying and associated distortion; in short, they want the largest possible clear field of view.
These two major points when designing a progressive lens are difficult to cope with, at least when seeking conventional solutions. In the development of Hoyalux iD, Hoya took a radically different approach. By combining all its insights and technological know-how, the designers created a unique lens that will be a real eye-opener for presbyopes.

Perfect eye correction becomes reality

Until now, no genuine solution has been found to reduce skewed distortion when looking at the floor, down steps or in oblique directions, despite the fact that this can cause an uncomfortable feeling for the wearers of progressive lenses.
Thanks to Hoya's Skew Deformation Index Calculation (Patent pending), a new virtual evaluation technique, it is possible to recalculate the most disturbing distortion to such an extent that perfect eye correction becomes reality The effects of image distortion from oblique peripheral vision are quantified at every position on the lens and corrected via calculation.
The major advantage here for peripheral vision is that a significantly larger, sharper and above all more relaxed image can now be achieved in all directions in comparison with the current generation of progressive lenses. Image distortion is virtually a thing of the past along with non-tolerance.

Two perfectly integrated progressive aspheric surfaces

The integration of the two progressive aspherical surfaces creates a totally new surface structure. By effectively combining the advantages and new calculation techniques in all sight directions, any backdraws are neutralized.

Listings Law as the starting point
When the eye moves in an oblique direction, this causes incongruity as regards the axes along which the eye is looking. Thanks to Listings Law, the annoying effects of this phenomenon can be neutralized. Listings Law recognizes that people do not only look along horizontal and vertical axes but in all directions, including oblique axes. Dynamic vision in other words.

Listings Law maps out all the different movements that an eye makes from the center to all the various eccentric positions along equal axes. Measurements are not only restricted to the coordinates on the horizontal and vertical axes but also take into account all other coordinates. The principles of Listings Law have been incorporated in the calculations for the Hoyalux iD design.

Accurate aspheric/atoric correction in all directions

By analyzing the natural behavior of the eye in relation to the position of the lens surface, this exceptionally accurate calculation method ensures optimal aspherisation in all directions. It also offers perfect eye correction, not only on the two primary axes (vertical and horizontal) but in all directions, along equal axes with a stable balance, a perfect interaction between far and near and an ultimate enlargement of the free field of view.

This major breakthrough is in part thanks to a completely new interpretation of eye behavior and the calculation method this has inspired.

The ideal choice for every presbyopic customer

As Hoyalux iD can be ordered in compliance with the most important optical parameters, opticians can more accurately meet the ergonomic requirements of individual presbyopes. Thus allowing a stable image perception between the right and left eye.

Bi-aspheric/atoric FreeForm polishing technique

Hoyalux iD is created using ‘FreeForm cutting technology and a special polishing technique developed by Hoya. This ensures that in day-to-day practice the original design characteristics are maintained for every order, guaranteeing the significantly improved performance and overall accuracy, offered by Hoyalux iD.

Hoyalux iD offers optical perfection and unprecedented flexibility

When ordering Hoyalux iD, the measured distance at which the addition power will be set and the calculations for the specific inset value can be based upon the monocular pupil distance, measured near distance and personal prescription. This ensures that the most accurate binocular image perception is realized.
